Donating a Car in Dallas, Texas
So you're ready to buy a new car and you just don't need the old one. Sure, you could sell it, but you might not get much money anyway, and besides, you'd rather do a good deed and get a tax break instead of whatever you could get for selling the thing. But how does someone donate their car? Well, in truth, there are a lot of ways and just right here in Dallas there are many agencies who will take car donations and give you the proper paperwork so that come tax season, you can get a hefty tax credit from the government for donating your old vehicle to a good cause. Most will even handle the automobile moving in Dallas, TX, within reason, of course. It may not be worth as much as you could have gotten if you had sold the thing, but the intrinsic satisfaction of doing a good deed is more than enough to make up for the difference.
Dallas has a lot of charitible organizations. It's a charitible city in the middle of a very charitible state that takes care of it's own when they end up down on their luck. In addition, there are a lot of non-profit organizations in Dallas that can really use more transportation. As such, there are really three ways to donate a car most anywhere you plan on going to Donate.
- Donate the car to be sold to someone else- Organizations like Goodwill will take your car and put it up for auto auction so that people who might not have as much money to get even a decent used car will be able to get a car and get back and forth to work . This is a great, easy way to donate your car in Dallas and is really the most popular method of donating a vehicle. there are some catches though. For one, you have to be sure that your local Goodwill or other organization is set up to take cars. As an organization, there are many Goodwill locations that will be able to accept a car donation, but some cannot. Look online or call your local Goodwill store to find out. The second is that while you may intend on providing a car that someone with limited income could afford to buy so they could get around, there's no guarantee that someone of that nature will end up buying the car. It could very well be some rich person or your neighbor who was looking to get his hands on a cheap car. You can't really control who gets these cars, so that's a risk you'll have to take.
- Donate your car to be used - Some organizations just really need more transportation. In this case, your car will have to be reliable and it may have to be of a special type, like a van or a station wagon, in order for the organization to use it. This can be anything from a service that helps the elderly get to the grocery store, to a delivery vehicle for a non-profit pizza chain that employs inner city people to make pizza, and then uses the profits to support charitable projects (Look it up! It's a real thing!), or anything else. The point is, this is a somewhat tougher sell because you need to have a car that meets the specifications that the organization is looking for, but it can be put directly to use for a good cause, which is pretty satisfying.
- Donate your car to be sold - Sometimes, organizations just need money and are prepared to take donations in whatever form you've got. This even means donating you car. There are places in Dallas where you can donate your car and an organization will simply sell it for you and keep the money as a donation. This is also relatively common, though it can be somewhat harder to find, and you may need to contact your favorite organization to see if they are able to accept the donation of a car.
